Introduction to the study of inscriptions and other original documents in Sanskrit and Prakrit languages and in Kharosthi, Brahmi, and derived scripts. History of writing in India and development of Indic scripts. Methods of critical evaluation of inscriptions as sources of political and cultural history. Prerequisite: SNKRT 203 or SNKRT 523.
